Further to points Re; aged Grappa from Mark Marowitz issue 3.

I found a very good Grappa 5 years ago that is a normal grappa in the sense that most are blended.

Sarpa di Poli (Bassano del Grappa, just North of Venice) is a base grappa made with Merlot and Cab Sauv grapes. Single varieties tend to be smoother, I use the Moscato.

They have aged ones from 3-4 years up to 10-13 years.

The web site www.poligrappa.com is excellent and has all the history of this ancient art.

Especially try out the 'Affinity' section which has a Policromic chart placing all varieties in there place, within contexts of flavour,taste,aromatics etc

Sarpa is available in the US, I've seen it online from some company based in San Francisco, but it is expensive ($50). Here the Sarpa is £24 and the Moscato £38.

I also stock the liqueur version, Honey Miele which is possibly the best new liqueur I've come across in my 30 years in the trade.
